Working alongside the talented and undoubtedly most intelligent people I've ever met over the last five years has been my greatest pleasure. The roots of Backbone are of friendship and good ideas. The early days of Backbone were a crucible that forged faith in oneself. Ideas turned to action in a matter of moments, and there was a fire that came from building something that everyone had faith would transform the industry landscape. It was tremendous. Just seeing Backbone in a brick-and-mortar will give you faith in its potential.
I have always loved the craft of products. I just didn't know what it took to make them. I never had the opportunity to see it firsthand until I joined Backbone. Now, I know the process is a potent mixture of an open mind, risk, and vision—each of which you can embody every day. Take moments to envision your perfect future, and you will make conscious and, more importantly, subconscious choices that will lead you to make it a reality.
Always be a sponge for knowledge. Until my time at Backbone, I had never run a social media page for 500k followers, never met with the likes of Apple or Nvidia, never curated app content and sent push notifications, never crafted and sent emails to millions, never wrote and published a company Wikipedia page, never created and ran advertisements, never DM’d with Mr.Beast, never made decisions which changed how an app functioned for a user, never ran a research study, and never decided the position of atoms in a mass market product. Anything you don't know is an opportunity to learn something new. I fundamentally believe that anyone is capable of accomplishing anything.
Make your voice heard, and never be afraid to disagree and commit. Even committing to the wrong choice will lead you to the gift of introspection. The greatest asset you can ever have is your perspective, and there is no greater purpose in life than fostering its development. It is not your y-intercept that matters, but your slope.
I wish you all the very best in your pursuits. Have an open mind, never doubt yourself, and no matter what, respect others and help them grow.
